Choosing the right hotel at Universal isn’t just about a bed. It is about strategy. The right resort can save you hours of waiting in line. It can also save you hundreds of dollars on transportation.

I spend my days helping families navigate these choices. Today, I am sharing the 5 things you must know about Universal resorts before you book. These tips will help you maximize your fun and minimize your stress.

1. The “Premier” Perk: Free Express Pass

This is the single most important tip I give my clients. If you stay at a Premier Resort, Universal gives you a gift. You receive a free Universal Express Unlimited pass for everyone in your room.

In 2026, the cost of buying an Express Pass can often exceed the price of the hotel room itself. When you stay at a Premier property, you skip the regular lines at most attractions. You can ride your favorites over and over again.

The Math: For a family of four, this perk can save you over $800 per day.

2. Early Park Admission is a Game Changer

Every guest staying at a Universal Orlando hotel gets Early Park Admission. This lets you into the parks up to one hour before the general public.

In 2026, this is vital for visiting The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. You can ride Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure while the crowds are still at the front gate.

The Strategy: Do not sleep in! Head to the gates 45 minutes before the “early” time starts.

If you stay at Sapphire Falls or Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, you can take a Water Taxi. These boats are relaxing and drop you right at CityWalk. However, if you stay at Endless Summer, you must take a bus.

The Walking Path: Some hotels, like Hard Rock, are so close that you can walk to the gates in five minutes.
Katy’s Pro Tip: If you have small children in strollers, the Water Taxi or a walking path is much easier than folding a stroller for a bus every morning.

4. Resort-to-Resort Charging and Delivery

Universal makes it very easy to spend your money, but they also make it convenient! When you stay on-site, your room key is your wallet. You can charge meals and souvenirs directly to your hotel account throughout the entire resort.

Even better? You don’t have to carry your bags all day.

Merchandise Delivery: If you buy a giant plush Minion at 10:00 AM, don’t carry it! Universal will deliver your purchases directly to your hotel for free.
The Catch: This service usually takes 24 hours. Don’t use this on your very last day of vacation!

5. The “Value” Hotels are Actually Great

Don’t let the word “Value” scare you away. Resorts like Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort are fan favorites for a reason. Cabana Bay has a retro 1950s theme and is one of my personal favorites. It features a bowling alley, several pools, and a lazy river.

Family Suites: Many value resorts offer suites that sleep up to six people. They include a small kitchenette. This is perfect for families who want to save money by eating breakfast in the room.
The Vibe: Value resorts often have the best pools and themes. You might feel more “on vacation” at Cabana Bay than at a luxury hotel!
