1. HHN House Lineup & Announcements: Navigating the 10 Houses

Every summer, Universal unleashes a slow drip of house announcements that sets horror fans on fire. During the event, you will encounter 10 fully immersive, movie-set-quality haunted houses.

Intellectual Properties (IPs) vs. Original Concepts

Movie & TV IPs: These are headline attractions based on iconic films or shows (think Stranger Things, Hellraiser, or Evil Dead). They draw massive crowds because people want to step directly into their favorite horror media. This year Hellraiser and Ozzy are really hard to beat, but I think Sinner just may have done it!
Universal Originals: Created by Universal’s insanely talented Art & Design team, these original story-line houses feature unique lore, intricate set pieces, and relentless scares.

Pro-Agent Tip: Don’t just chase the famous movie titles! Original houses often feature the best set designs, story continuity, and jump scares of the entire night.

2. Accessibility Demystified: How ADA Works Inside Haunted Houses

One of the most frequent questions clients ask me is how accessibility accommodations function inside dark, chaotic sound-stages. Universal works hard to keep the event accessible, but there are vital rules first-timers must understand:

Attraction Assistance Pass (AAP) at HHN

If you or someone in your group uses Universal’s Attraction Assistance Pass (AAP) for disabilities, it works seamlessly at HHN. You present your AAP pass at a house’s entrance, receive a return time matching the current standby wait, and return later to enter through the priority lane.

Wheelchairs & Mobility Scooters (ECVs)

Standard Wheelchairs: The paved pathways inside all 10 haunted houses are fully manual wheelchair accessible.
ECVs/Mobility Scooters: Electric scooters are not permitted inside the tight turns and narrow corridors of haunted houses. If you ride an ECV through the park, you must transfer to a manual wheelchair (provided at every house entrance) before going inside.

3. HHN Food, Drinks, and Specialty Menus: Eating Your Way Through the Event

HHN is just as famous for its culinary creations as it is for its scares! Universal builds themed food kiosks throughout the park, serving up delicious—and deliciously terrifying—treats.

Pizza Skulls & Twisted Taters: Fan favorites return year after year! Grab a hot pizza skull stuffed with gooey cheese and pepperoni, or crunch on spiralized fried potato skewers seasoned to perfection.
IP-Themed Delicacies: Food booths match house themes—serving everything from Stranger Things waffle creations to spicy birria pizza fries and savory street tacos. But I think the BBQ egg rolls were out of this world. Sweet and savory BBQ, with the jalapeño slaw, wrapped in perfectly crisped egg roll shell, served with some BBQ sauce on the side, really hit the spot. They are located at the Sinner Club Juke by Cafe La Bamba.
Specialty Cocktails & Souvenir Cups: Grab themed cocktails in light-up souvenir cups. Refills at kiosks across the park come at a discounted rate!

4. HHN Non-Scary Activities & Show Times: Rest Your Feet in Style

If you need a break from jump scares or have group members who dislike scary houses, HHN offers world-class non-horror entertainment!

High-Energy Stage Shows

Nightmare Fuel: This live, outdoor amphitheater show features heavy-metal beats, illusions, acrobatics, and fire-breathers. Even though the Nightmare Queen isn’t there this year, the show is still very good. This sexy vampire rock opera is amazing, and still PG. It is a must-see spectacle that gives your feet a much-needed 30-minute rest!

Tribute Store & Daytime Rides

The HHN Tribute Store: A multi-room, heavily themed walk-through shop packed with exclusive merchandise, retro displays, and specialty baked goods.
Open Theme Park Rides: Select major attractions—like Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts stay open during HHN, often with much shorter wait times than daytime hours!

5. Sensory & Comfort Strategies: Flashing Lights, Claustrophobia, and Motion Sickness

HHN uses intense lighting, loud audio, and dense fog to disorient guests. If you suffer from sensory sensitivity, claustrophobia, or motion sickness, you do not have to miss out on the fun!

Simple Hacks for a Comfortable Night:

Earplugs for Sound Levels: Sound-stage audio easily exceeds 90 decibels. High-fidelity acoustic earplugs soften screeching alarms and scare actor screams while letting you hear ambient dialogue clearly.
Managing Strobes & Fog: Strobe warnings are posted at every house entrance. If flashing lights trigger discomfort or migraines, wearing dark sunglasses inside strobe-heavy rooms softens the intensity significantly.
Claustrophobia & Panic Relief: Modern HHN houses use wide, flowing hallways rather than tight “squeeze walls.” Every house features illuminated green emergency exit doors every 20 to 30 feet. If you feel overwhelmed, notify a team member, and they will escort you safely to an exit!
